Player News: Liverpool duo including Mohamed Salah shine on international duty

International Watch: Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson shine on national duty

With the international break now done and dusted and most players on their way back to Liverpool to train before the clutch league game against Manchester City on April 1, we’ll have a look at Reds’ stars Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson who had a role to play for their countries during this time.

Egypt’s 4-0 win over Malawi saw Mohamed Salah breach the 50-goal mark for The Pharaohs as the Egyptian King scored a goal and assisted another in the game. Mo seems to break records every time he steps on the pitch, and surely, the player flies back to Merseyside with a lot of confidence on his back.

A player like Mo can change games from any situation, and we would need him to repeat his masterclass against City from earlier in the season as he scored a beautiful goal beating Joao Cancelo from an Alisson pass and getting the Reds their 1-0 win against Pep Guardiola’s side at Anfield back in October.

Elsewhere, Scotland skipper Andy Robertson was on fire against Spain as he assisted one of two goals from Scott McTominay handing the Scots their first win over Luis de la Fuente’s side in 39 years.

Salah and Robbo must carry this form into club football

In total, the Reds on this international break have been fairly successful for their respective countries. Apart from Mo and Robbo, Jordan Henderson got an assist for England against Ukraine. Curtis Jones enjoyed his time with the England U21s scoring a goal and getting an assist.

Ibou Konate kept two clean sheets for France during the international break. Naby Keita scored a goal for Guinea as well while Virgil van Dijk kept a clean sheet in one of his two games too. With Luis Diaz also inching closer to a return, the Reds would need to fire on all cylinders against a tough opposition on Saturday in their pursuit of a top-four finish.

With Chelsea, Arsenal, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest to follow the fixture against Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp’s men have their task cut out outright in the quest of finishing in any of the UCL spots.

All these fixtures are tough in their respect and it is important that we get maximum points from these games. The reverse fixture against Chelsea ended in a draw while Arsenal, Leeds and Nottingham, all ended in a loss for the Reds.

More Liverpool News

There is not much of the season left to play and it is right now that the Reds need to take matters into their own hands and take charge of games instead of sitting back. We need to attack and get outright results and immediately. The worst-case scenario of the Reds not qualifying for the UCL next season will have repercussions in terms of the transfer market and make things harder than they already are for Jurgen Klopp.
