Liverpool interested in free transfer for 23-year-old centre-back also on Barcelona’s radar

Liverpool are interested in signing Evan Ndicka who will be available for free

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka who will be available for free in the summer window.

The young Frenchman got a final contract offer from the German side, but he rejected that and wants to move somewhere else.

Along with Liverpool, north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the reckoning to sign the 23-year-old. Barcelona and Paris-Saint Germain are keeping an eye too. The player is yet to decide on his next destination.

Liverpool may need to sign a centre-back in the summer as they are expected to part ways with Joel Matip, whose contract expires in 2024. If they do not have any plans for the Cameroonian, it will be better to sell him now than let him go for free later.

If Matip is sold, there is a slot available for a foreign player to come and challenge for the places in the centre-back department.

Ndicka is an excellent young player who likes to be front-footed with his defending, passing out from the back and contesting duels.

The 23-year-old has played for the France U-20 and U-21 alongside the current Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate. The latter is now a regular starter in the French senior side.

Ndicka is a versatile player though because he can operate as a left-back and a defensive midfielder if required. He has got a great left foot.

With Liverpool expected to spend big to overhaul the midfield department, it would be a bonus to get a top-class centre-back for free to get the defensive transition over the line as well.

The only issue will be Ndicka’s preference. Being a Parisian, will he try and get a move to PSG? If not, then Jurgen Klopp should be all over this and sign him.
