Liverpool star Diogo Jota talks about the final push ahead of crunch week for the Reds

With 11 games to go in the season, the Reds have a huge task ahead of them to get back to winning ways and secure UCL football for next season. While the fact that Diogo Jota returned from his injury layoff recently is certainly a huge boost, the Portuguese star is yet to score for Liverpool in almost a year.

His last goal for the Reds arrived at the Eithad in the 2-2 draw in April 2022. This is just the time for him to prove himself and get back into the starting XI more regularly as injury layoffs plus the emergence of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have further pushed Jota down the pecking order.

Jota is one of the most versatile forwards in the club and Jurgen Klopp should find better ways to utilise his services. Apart from his versatility, Jota is easily the most clinical among all forwards at the club.

Speaking to the club’s official website on getting through the final few weeks of the season, here is what Jota said:

“We need to fight to try to do the best possible we can this season, because there’s still 11 games to go and we need to give proper energy and be ready for next season, because we need to qualify for something, and Champions League is still possible – it would be massive if we could do that.”

Could the Reds make it to the UCL?

The financial implications of not qualifying for the latter stages of the UCL this season are already very heavy. Moreover, in case we do not get through next year, it could become extremely difficult for the Reds to draw out their ideal transfer targets from their clubs and there is not much the Reds could do about it as well.

With 11 games left in the season, Liverpool face a tough challenge to secure Champions League qualification, but Jota’s form could be the key to their success. Hopefully, the former Wolves man finds his feet again and help the Reds get to where they want to be, easing off pressure from the likes of Mohamed Salah as well.

Despite Jota’s struggles, his potential impact on the team cannot be overstated. Jota’s ability to play across the front line gives the team a new option in attack. His pace, movement and finishing ability make him a dangerous prospect for any opposition defence.

He has seven assists in 17 appearances across all competitions this season, but he would hope to get the goals coming sooner than later as well. The injury was obviously unfortunate, the season is still not over and our #20 still has the chance to prove himself.

With the season entering its final stages, Liverpool fans will be hoping that Jota can recapture the form that made him such a hit early in his Liverpool career and help propel the club towards a top-four finish.
