Liverpool in search of a new goalkeeper as Caoimhin Kelleher is set to leave in the summer

According to Daily Mail, Liverpool are in search of a new goalkeeper as Alisson Becker’s backup Caoimhin Kelleher is ready to leave the club in the summer.

The Ireland international, who has been at Liverpool since his youth days in 2015, has had a few opportunities to play for the first team in the recent past. He was the Reds’ keeper in the Carabao Cup and became a hero in the final of that competition last season by slotting in the decisive penalty in the shoot-out and making several good saves in the game.

Although the 24-year-old has not let Jurgen Klopp down whenever given the opportunity, it is understandable why he wants to leave the club now. With Alisson in goal, Kelleher is not expected to get much game time.

To get that, the only option he has is to become number one at a different club. The report states that he won’t be short of suitors in the summer.

Klopp is the type of manager who generally doesn’t stop players from leaving if they feel they can do well elsewhere. We can imagine the same to be the case with Kelleher.

The Irishman will always be remembered for a memorable Carabao Cup campaign of 2021/22, including that decisive penalty in the shoot-out of the final. He was an able deputy to Alisson in the league and Champions League games too.

We would hope to find a keeper who has the qualities to chip in for the Brazilian when required but accept that he will be getting limited opportunities between the sticks. It would be interesting to see towards which player Klopp turns to for the fulfilment of this role.
