Liverpool could reignite their interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo de Paul
According to Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could reignite their interest to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo de Paul.
The report states that the Reds were beaten by the Spanish side back in 2021 when the player moved from Udinese to Madrid. The Merseyside club are ready to spend £34m to get him.
It is also revealed that due to the lack of spark shown in Atleti colours of late, the Argentine World Cup winner has seen his game time diminish.
If we look at the numbers, de Paul has played only 1152 minutes of league football and made 20 appearances out of the 27 played by the team.
Having seen him in Qatar and also previously for Atleti, one can say that the 28-year-old is an excellent central midfielder who is technically sound and loves to fight for each ball in midfield.
The Argentine does have a snide side to his game as well. He likes to be in the face of opposition players and does not shirk away from tackles, even if they are dangerous ones.
Although he would add legs and quality to the Liverpool midfield, we would be surprised if Jurgen Klopp decides to sign him this summer.
Not just his profile as a player, but the age (28) would potentially not be an attraction to the German if he is given de Paul as an option to buy in the next transfer window.
Latest reports have linked the Reds with Jude Bellingham (19), Mason Mount (24) and Moises Caicedo (21). All three are below 25 and have a higher ceiling to reach in their respective careers.

So, the club may rather spend the big bucks on these players rather than splashing it on de Paul. The 28-year-old won’t be short of suitors though as a lot of clubs like to have a player like him in their midfield.
