Chelsea keen to keep Levi Colwill amidst Liverpool interest

According to football.london, Chelsea are keen to retain the services of Levi Colwill amidst interest from Liverpool.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion. He has impressed for the Seagulls and could have been a regular in Roberto De Zerbi’s side had it not been for injuries.

Colwill is an excellent reader of the game and often impresses with the ball at his feet. A modern day centre-back, the young Englishman has all the traits needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are the Reds’ first-choice central defenders at the moment. The latter has fallen off in recent months and appears to be a pale shadow of his former self.

It is, however, time for Joel Matip to be moved on. Joe Gomez also appears shaky at centre-back and is at best a third or fourth choice in the role. Colwill is far from ready to be starting for us, but it makes sense to get him on board as a long-term prospect.

Chelsea, for their part, still see a huge role for Colwill in the coming years. Despite bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly, Benoit Badisashile and Wesley Fofana, the Blues still see Colwill as a key part of their future plans.

The Reds also face competition from Man City in the race for the youngster. Whether either team can pry Colwill away from Chelsea remains to be seen.

Colwill is an excellent player and would thrive under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. However, it remains doubtful if Chelsea will consider strengthening a major rival.
