According to 90min.com via ECHO, Liverpool still remain ‘firm admirers’ of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus who saw himself linked with the Reds in the past as well. The 26-year-old German international is a versatile midfielder, who can play in all roles in the middle of the park.
Liverpool are in the midst of a rebuild and the midfield issues have been at the core of all problems for Jurgen Klopp and his side this campaign. With the Jude Bellingham saga now believed to conclude, it is important for the recruitment team to regroup and look for alternatives, and Neuhaus is a potential candidate.
Neuhaus has been a key player for Borussia Monchengladbach, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists in 166 appearances across all competitions. He has impressed with his ability to control the tempo of games and make incisive passes, and his versatility makes him an attractive proposition for Liverpool.
While Liverpool show interest in Neuhaus, they are not the only club keeping tabs on the German midfielder. Napoli, AC Milan, Roma, and several other clubs from Spain and the Premier League are also monitoring his situation.
While the race is still wide open, the fact that his contract with the Bundesliga side expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt) could make things financially easier for the Reds. With just a year to go, Monchengladbach would know that this would be their final opportunity to cash in as much as possible for Neuhaus.
Liverpool are likely to face a busy summer transfer window as they look to rebuild their squad. Along with midfield, the club also needs to bring in a central defender or maybe two.
Despite the competition for Neuhaus, Liverpool have shown in the past that they can beat other top clubs to the signature of their targets as we saw recently in the case of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz, beating Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
Overall, Neuhaus would be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s midfield. His technical ability and tactical flexibility would make him a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s system, and he could help the club compete for trophies both domestically and in Europe.
While Neuhaus might not be the greatest central midfielder in defensive situations, his close control and ability to control the tempo of the game could come in really handy. Moreover, the fact that he’s still young could mean that he could prove to be a good backup for Thiago as well. Hopefully, we get a few players on board and propel the club to success in the near future and beyond.
