Liverpool star Diogo Jota credits Cristiano Ronaldo for helping him end his goal drought
According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool star Diogo Jota has credited international teammate and former Manchester United hero, Cristiano Ronaldo for helping him overcome his goal drought.
The Portuguese ace found the back of the net twice at Elland Road and looked like a different player once he put the ball in the back of the net. Jota last celebrated a goal for Liverpool in April 2022, a lifetime away.
The 26-year-old looked shaky and indecisive early on at Elland Road but quickly rediscovered his groove after scoring in the 52nd minute. The strike has certainly boosted the striker’s confidence and he showed far more clinical ability while bragging the second in the 73rd minute.
Speaking after the game, Jota credited Ronaldo for ending his drought. He recalled what the footballing legend said about overcoming adversity by using the analogy of a ketchup bottle.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar said that scoring goals is like “opening a ketchup bottle, when the first drop comes out, everything comes out.” While it might sound funny, there is no doubt that it makes sense.
“That’s one of the sentences Ronaldo said and it really stuck in my mind all these years.”
Ronaldo has little reason to help a Liverpool player. But his attitude and way of looking at things certainly left an impression on Jota. Regardless of where he channels it from, we’re glad to have our Iberian star firing once again.
Having gotten the monkey off his back Jota can now look to end the season strongly. Form is temporary and class is permanent. Football is a game that can flip on its head in a second and Jota was thankfully at the right end this time.
“I think football is unpredictable, and these are the things we like in this football game. Things can change very quick.”

Hopefully, the outing at Elland Road will see Jota open the floodgates and fire in goal after goal for the remainder of the season. Who knows, after all, a top-four spot is still mathematically possible.
