Manchester United join Liverpool target in the race for Matheus Nunes
According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Manchester United join the race for the signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder and Liverpool target Matheus Nunes.
Nunes has been a Liverpool target for some time now as the Reds hope to bolster their midfield department in the summer.
United have their ambitions of strengthening the midfield with key signings in the transfer window, hence have Nunes on their radar.
The Portugal international has had a decent first season in the Premier League playing for Wolves. After a slow start, he has done well in the last few weeks.
Nunes is a versatile player who can play in multiple positions across the midfield. He is a great technician on the ball, can progress well with it, has a good shot in him (Chelsea would vouch for that because of the wonder goal he scored against them last week), reads the game well and is physically strong.
The thing to note here is that the 24-year-old was a Liverpool target months before they pulled out of the deal to sign Jude Bellingham. So, Jurgen Klopp and his staff might have had him in their sights irrespective of the Bellingham signature.
What the former Sporting star would offer us is the legs and ball-carrying capability in midfield. We have lacked that in abundance throughout the season. Curtis Jones has done well in the last few games with similar attributes, but he cannot be trusted at the moment, isn’t he?
If Wolves stay in the league, which is looking increasingly likely, they might ask for a big fee for the sale of Nunes having only signed him last summer.

Let’s hope that if Liverpool think he is the right player, they must go all out to sign him at the start of the summer window.
