Arsenal have joined Liverpool in the fray for Chelsea star Mason Mount

According to Goal (h/t Metro), Premier League leaders Arsenal have joined the race for Liverpool target and Chelsea star Mason Mount ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old’s deal at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024 and he is yet to pen an extension that will keep him at Stamford Bridge. This has seen several clubs including even Manchester United make a play to land him.

An experienced player who is well acquainted with the Premier League, Mount will not need any time to adapt to the league and can do his job from the word go. In many ways, any of the three teams could do with a player of his talents.

Liverpool’s midfield has been crying out for reinforcements for some time now and Mount’s potential arrival is a godsend. Not only does the 24-year-old provide Jurgen Klopp with a long-term option but is also English, adding to the club’s homegrown quota.

They now face competition from Arsenal who are keen to build upon the promise shown this season. Mikel Arteta’s men have lost steam in recent weeks but have the core of their first XI intact to put together a long-term project. Adding Mount to a midfield that also included Martin Odegaard among other talents will definitely cook.

With the Emirates set to experience Champions League football again, Arteta will need an infusion of quality to his roster to be considered seriously. However, being local rivals with Chelsea, the latter might not want to sell Mount to the Gunners.

Liverpool will benefit from moving fast and getting a deal over the line. The quicker we get the deal done, the quicker we can reflect our attention elsewhere. It will also rejuvenate an aging midfield and undoubtedly add a new profile into our team – that of an experienced creative playmaker who can supply the frontline.
