Tottenham Hotspur are ready to rival Liverpool for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Tottenham Hotspur have joined Liverpool in the race for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

Ndicka has established himself as one of the top defenders in the Bundesliga and looks set to leave the German club on a free transfer in the summer window.

It provides an exciting opportunity for clubs who are looking to add quality to their defensive department with the French defender ready to make the next step in his career.

There is a dearth of left-footed centre-backs in modern football and an increasing need for them with how modern football is being played.

Ndicka, 23, provides a very good option for Liverpool with the player having shown multi-positional variation and could also be slotted in the left-back position with age also a factor working in his favour.

LFC must hurry up

We face competition from our direct rivals Spurs who are also looking to add a player of a similar profile, with current loanee Clement Lenglet expected to head back to FC Barcelona.

In the end, Spurs could still provide the lure of UEFA Champions League football with the club currently fifth in the league while the hopes of Liverpool going to Europe are pretty slim.

Nevertheless, the charm of Anfield and the key factor of playing under Jurgen Klopp are enough for any player to be convinced of moving to Liverpool.

There is also the need for the Reds to start planning for life without the slowly but steadily ageing pair of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip. Joe Gomez’s injury issues don’t help either. Let’s just hope Spurs don’t clinch UCL football because that could be a big point on their board when it comes to competing for transfer targets.

The upcoming transfer window is expected to bring a big change in the current squad and it remains to be seen whether the club will continue with their pursuit of Ndicka.
