Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount held positive talks with Chelsea
According to the Evening Standard (h/t football.london), Premier League giants Liverpool have been handed a potential blow in their pursuit of Chelsea star Mason Mount.
The English international has just over a year to go on his current deal at Stamford Bridge. With an extension yet to be signed, he is backed to leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Several top clubs are after Mount, both from the Premier League and abroad. Liverpool have made him their top target for the summer while Arsenal and Bayern Munich among others are also interested.
Blues owner Todd Boehly is not keen to let his star man leave in the summer. The American has held positive talks with the 24-year-old in order to buy his side some time.
By asking Mount to pen a short-term deal Boehly is ensuring that Chelsea have time on their hands to regroup and offer Mount better terms. It is clear to see that Chelsea would rather keep the 24-year-old if they could.
Mount was a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s UEFA Champions League-winning side and can be a star in the middle of the park for years to come. Chelsea are keen to keep it that way.
Mount’s stock has fallen in recent months and he was a peripheral player under Graham Potter. Injuries too played their part and the Chelsea star has struggled to find form and consistency.

He is currently nursing another knock and is unlikely to play for the club this season. Time will tell whether he has played his last game in Chelsea blue. Hopefully, that is the case, considering how he will be a talented, versatile homegrown player in our ageing, bland midfield.
