Liverpool winger Luis Diaz on giving it all for the team and friendship with Darwin Nunez
Liverpool winger Luis Diaz insists he is eager to give his all for the team after missing a lot of action and talked about his friendship with Darwin Nunez.
Diaz picked up a knee injury in early October during a game against Arsenal. The former Porto attacker returned for the mid-season training camp in Dubai in December but aggravated his injury and had to get surgery done on it.
The Colombian international eventually played his first game since his setback against Leeds United at Elland Road a couple of weeks ago. He made his first start on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur and scored in a thrilling victory for the Reds.
Diaz was signed by Liverpool in January 2021, while Nunez arrived last summer. The South American duo seem to have a good friendship. Here’s the former talking about that and him maximising his time at Anfield (h/t Liverpool FC website):
“Since I arrived here, I’ve always wanted to give absolutely everything, 100 per cent all the time. It’s a dream come true, so I always want to be performing at my very best level.
“I’ve had some help too in the shape of my teammates who have helped me with getting used to the football and with the language and made me feel comfortable and at ease. They’ve made me feel at home in every single training session, and these were all important factors in my settling in much more quickly.
“Yes, absolutely. Right now, we are really close [he and Nunez]. We spend almost every second together from the moment we get into training to the minute we leave!
“It’s really cool having him as a teammate now and I’m really proud to be playing alongside him because I know just how good a player he is, and his ability and quality offers us so much as a team.”
Although we are talking in hindsight now, we would not be surprised to see Liverpool in a better place had Diaz been fit throughout the season. His pace, directness on the ball and the goal-scoring threat was a combination not many have in the game.
Let’s hope that the Colombian remains fit and healthy and help us win the remaining games of the campaign. If we do that, there is still a slight chance of sneaking into the Champions League places.
If that is not possible, Jurgen Klopp may use the momentum gained to have a good pre-season. The German and his staff will have a normal pre-season this time around with no World Cup and Euros to disrupt the timeline.

We expect Diaz and Liverpool to come back strong next season and get back to challenging Manchester City for the title once again. His partnership with Darwin Nunez would surely be key to that.
These are two players we have signed to usher in a new era – one that doesn’t include Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. They have been immense whenever they have been on the pitch and will only get better with time. Exciting times ahead.
