Injury News: Liverpool to be sans Thiago, Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita for Fulham encounter
Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Liverpool will be without Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino, alongside Thiago Alcantara, when Liverpool face Fulham later today (May 3).
The Spaniard, as per the Times (Subscription Required), has been ruled out for the rest of the season as he is set to undergo a minor surgery to fix a hip issue. That will obviously frustrate Reds fans.
Ever since his arrival from Bayern Munich, Thiago’s injury issues have rendered him useless for big parts of his stay at Anfield. That’s particularly a shame because of just how magical he is on the ball.
He barely has a single chink in his armour and on his day, is one of the finest, classiest midfielders in the world. To add to that, Keita and Firmino are training but as per Klopp, won’t play a part against the Cottagers.
Liverpool still have UCL dreams
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the former Borussia Dortmund manager said:
“Bobby is training. He looks good, not ready for the game, but is doing more and more so we are waiting for him in team training again. Pretty much the same for Naby.”
Keita’s time in Liverpool has been utterly wasted by injuries. He never seems to be fit for more than a couple of weeks which is why one can’t blame Liverpool fans if they hope he doesn’t extend his stay on Merseyside beyond the summer.
His contract expires at the end of the season alongside Firmino’s (Transfermarkt). Firmino is a legend here and his time is coming to a close. He has done his part this season with goals in crucial games, such as against Arsenal in the 2-2 draw.
We are anyway not overly reliant on him anymore. Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are all ahead of him in the pecking order. Curtis Jones seems to have turned a corner so Thiago and Keita’s absence can be managed.

Jordan Henderson, Fabinho Tavares and Harvey Elliott would be our other options. The game against Fulham will be important. With five games to go, we must rake in 18 points to have any shot of making the top four.
