Romano drops Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid update that will frustrate Liverpool fans

Jude Bellingham on course to sign for Real Madrid with deal in the final stage

As per a tweet from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are close to completing a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham, who was a Liverpool target for the past year, has been linked with the Reds, Manchester City and the European champions Real Madrid.

A few weeks ago, Liverpool admitted defeat in the transfer race as they felt the 19-year-old would cost a lot of money (surprise, surprise). They instead want to spread that cash on signing several players in the summer window.

In another tweet from Romano, it is revealed that Real would want to complete the deal this month to avoid any late U-turn from Bellingham. Personal terms are agreed upon.

If the reports from Romano are to be believed (it is mostly accurate), Liverpool are on the verge of missing out on their top two midfield targets in consecutive summer windows. Madrid beat the Reds in getting Tchouameni last summer, while they are readying a deal to get Bellingham in the coming days. Sad state of affairs as far as Liverpool are concerned.

The only consolation is that the 19-year-old won’t go to Manchester City, which would have improved a side that is already ramming through opponents in the league and Europe.

The other consolation is the fact that Liverpool won’t potentially face Madrid next season as they are not going to qualify for the Champions League. If the recruitment this summer does not go well, returning to that competition may take more than a year.

The Reds have kept Alexis Mac Allister as their top midfield target, while Chelsea’s Mason Mount is a primary target as well. Manuel Ugarte’s move to Anfield is being talked about as well.

Klopp would hope to get the signings in as soon as the summer window starts. Potentially missing out on Bellingham is truly, truly disappointing. Fans hoped the club’s inactivity when it came to signing midfielders in recent windows will amount to Bellingham’s arrival. FSG and co. have a big job now to compensate for this.
