Brighton are closing in on a deal to sign Liverpool midfielder James Milner

According to Guardian, Brighton and Hove Albion are confident about signing Liverpool midfielder James Milner on a free transfer this summer.

The report reveals that an agreement between both parties is close as the discussions regarding the offer to the player are ongoing.

If Brighton complete Milner’s signature, he will become their second signing of the summer because they have already agreed a £30m to sign Watford forward Joao Pedro.

Milner, 37, has been an exceptional servant for Liverpool since joining for free from Manchester City in 2015. He has won every trophy here and been a key part of the squad, irrespective of whether he is playing or not.

A few months ago, the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp did admit that he wants the former England international to sign an extension, but it seems like that is not going to happen.

The German and his staff are expected to be busy in the summer window, be it signing the right players or letting go of the ones whose sell-by date has crossed in the current squad.

Among the players linked is Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister. The same report of the Guardian has revealed that the Argentine World Cup will 100% leave the Seagulls in the summer, with Liverpool pushing hard for his signature.

The Reds have kept Chelsea’s Mason Mount as their primary target, while Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte is in talks too.

It remains to be seen how the club manages to navigate the talent pool on offer and sign the players that would fit the system here.
