Jurgen Klopp hails James Milner with Liverpool midfielder set for Brighton & Hove Albion move
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed James Milner for his contribution at the club, with the midfielder set for a move to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 37-year-old is going to end his eight-year stint at the Anfield side at the end of the season. A free transfer to the Seagulls looks to be on the cards for the veteran English national in the upcoming transfer window.
Speaking to the media via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Klopp expressed his admiration for Milner and revealed that he respected the midfielder’s decision.
“I can say I’ve had really good conversations with him. He knows how highly I rate him, it’s his decision. None of positive things over the past 7 and a half years would have happened without James Milner.”
The 37-year-old joined Liverpool as a free agent in the summer of 2015 after leaving Manchester City. He was a key player in the Reds’ starting lineup in the first few years at the club.
In the 2018/19 season, the English national played a pivotal role in the Merseyside outfit’s starting lineup as we ended up lifting the Champions League title. The Anfield side beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final.
During our last Premier League winning campaign, Milner once again was key to Klopp’s plans. But injuries had hampered his game time. Subsequently, the veteran midfielder’s influence in the starting lineup has reduced.
Now, the 37-year-old mostly makes appearances off the bench for Liverpool. However, the English national’s versatility has been crucial this season, considering Trent Alexander-Arnold’s dip in form and the injury crisis in the middle of the park.
Milner has been a great servant for the Reds. The midfielder will leave a great legacy behind at the Anfield side, having won every major title during his under Klopp.
