Report: Jorg Schmadtke close to joining Liverpool with three midfield targets on the horizon

Potential Sporting Director Jorg Schmadtke could help Liverpool sign three new midfielders in the summer

Reports emerge that Liverpool could have great help from the potential Sporting Director in their pursuit of three new midfielders over the summer.

Following the decision of Julian Ward to leave his role as the Sporting Director of the club at the end of the season, the Reds have been on the lookout for someone to replace him as well.

According to Daily Mail, the potential appointment of Jorg Schmadtke as sporting director will aid with their ambition to sign three midfielders over the summer. Alexis Mac Allister has been a top Liverpool transfer target and could join the Reds over the summer.

Manager Jürgen Klopp would want to reinforce the midfield given the fact that a number of players are also on their way out from the club in the summer. The likes of Naby Keïta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner would not be a part of the club next summer and we certainly need to reinforce that department.

The Athletic recently discussed a clause in Mac Allister’s contract that could help with a move for the player in the summer. However, it also states that it is not a typical release clause but there is a sense of power in Brighton and Hove Albion’s hands when it comes to negotiations.

Three Mids to the Reds?

Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes are two other midfielders who see themselves linked with a move to the Reds and the potential arrival of the Sporting Director could help facilitate a move for them.

With Mac Allister in our squad, the void left behind by Philipe Coutinho could see itself filled. The Reds have not had a creative midfielder who could score goals ever since the Brazilian’s move to Barcelona.

Moreover, with Jordan Henderson also potentially taking over the “James Milner” role given he’s getting old and probably doesn’t have a lot left in him, the Reds certainly need to go all guns out to get a few players at Anfield.

Hopefully, we get our desired transfer targets and also the Sporting Director to ensure that the future goes as planned for the Reds and Jürgen Klopp. Michael Edwards and Julian Ward have played big roles in some crucial signings in the Klopp era.
