Chelsea have cooled their interest in Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister

As per Football.London (h/t Liverpool Echo), Chelsea have cooled their interest in Liverpool target and Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The report also confirms the Reds’ interest in the Blues star Mason Mount, who is yet to sign an extension at Stamford Bridge with his contract expiring next summer.

It is also revealed that while Liverpool remain heavily interested in Mac Allister, other Premier League clubs would join the race soon.

As explained by David Ornstein in the Athletic (subscription required), although the Argentina international signed a new deal with Brighton before the World Cup, there is a mechanism in that contract that can be used by interested clubs to sign him in the coming summer window.

The 24-year-old has had an exceptional season for Brighton, along with his success in the World Cup with the national team.

He is a technically strong player who can pass the ball well, works hard without possession, can play in multiple positions across the midfield and is a fantastic penalty taker.

Liverpool could do with the all-round quality Mac Allister possesses in midfield. In him, they would get a player who knows to use the ball and has positional awareness to boot.

The Argentinian can play as one of the number eights in the Jurgen Klopp system and do well there. The other good thing about him is his age (24). He is at a stage in his career where the peak is yet to come.

A few days ago, Klopp talked about coming in early for the pre-season and have a great preparation ahead of the start of next season. He would ideally want the new signings to be with the squad from the first day of pre-season. Let’s hope that remains the case.
