Di Marzio says Liverpool are very keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella
Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio has claimed that Liverpool are one of the most interested parties in the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.
Liverpool’s need for a midfield revamp is there for all to see. Naby Keita, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and James Milner have seemingly run their race at Anfield and their contracts expire this summer.
Jordan Henderson has been bland and inconsistent while Fabinho Tavares’ doesn’t have any sort of competition. Curtis Jones has been impressive recently but he isn’t ready to be a regular starter for a ‘big six’ club.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role as a makeshift central midfielder has worked but is hopefully only a temporary solution. Amidst this, Di Marzio has revealed that the Reds are very keen on signing Inter Milan’s sensational 26-year-old superstar, Nicolo Barella.
What a cracking prospect
He said in an interview, via Sky Sports (Transcribed by TheKopTimes):
“I can say Liverpool is looking forward to him. They went here in Milan to see him face, in the stadium, Inter-Lazio. I don’t know if Liverpool will get him. I don’t know if Inter will sell him. I can say that Liverpool is one of the most interested clubs looking forward to Nicolo Barella.”
This would definitely be one of the signings for the ages. Those who have seen Barella play know all about him. He will suit us perfectly given how he has a great defensive work rate, is brilliant in possession and also contributes in attack.
The Inter midfielder has nine goals and eight assists in 45 games across competitions this season. Such availability is something we Liverpool fans only dream about, given how injuries to Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita have stagnated their careers at Liverpool.
One can imagine I Nerazzurri will be hesitant to part ways with one of the very best players in recent history. His contract runs until June 2026 (Transfermarkt) so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Inter don’t want to sell him right now or if they put a huge price tag on him.

It’s good to hear that the Reds are taking this midfielder business seriously because we seriously need several big-name signings there this summer. Liverpool scouting Barella in Inter Milan’s 3-1 league win against SS Lazio on April 30 shows we are after the cream of the crop.
