Liverpool midfielder James Milner rejected a lucrative late offer from Everton

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool midfielder James Milner rejected a lucrative offer from Everton to sign him as a free agent this summer.

Milner, whose contract expires at Anfield at the end of this season, is almost primed to sign for Brighton and Hove Albion. Everton made a late attempt to sign him, but that attempt has been rejected. As a Liverpool fan, this is music to our ears!

The report reveals a number of English clubs were interested in the former Manchester City player despite him being 37 now. Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and newly-promoted Burnley were in the race. But, it seems like he will sign for Brighton.

By rejecting an offer from Everton, Milner is showing his utmost allegiance towards Liverpool. He has been an exceptional servant for the club since arriving on a free transfer from City in 2015.

It won’t be an understatement that the Englishman is one of the best free transfers in the Premier League in the last decade or so.

A Liverpool midfielder becoming a free agent and Brighton becoming his next destination is a familiar-sounding story. In the summer of 2020, Adam Lallana did the same thing.

This summer though, we will not just be letting go of Milner for free, but Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita. All of them have their contracts expiring at the end of this season.

Arthur Melo has confirmed that he will leave the club once his loan spell ends (as if he was expecting a permanent offer after a horrendous time).
