Liverpool among the few clubs scouting young Montpellier star Elye Wahi
As per France Bleu Herault, relayed by Made in Monegasque (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are among the few clubs that are keeping a close eye on young Montpellier and French star Elye Wahi.
Along with the Reds, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, AS Monaco and a few other Premier League clubs are scouting the 20-year-old.
Wahi, a Montpellier youth product since 2018, made his senior debut last season. He has become a regular starter for the senior team this time around.
The French U21 international has got 17 goals and five assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances this season. He is predominantly a striker who can operate on either wing if required.
The 20-year-old possesses electric pace to trouble any defender on that front. He is good at dribbling past people and making shots on goal count. He has a goal conversion of 30% in the league this season (Goal conversion means the percentage of shots taken that resulted in a goal) [Sofascore].
His current contract with Montpellier runs until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). Given how good he has been for them this season, the French club might not be looking to part ways with him this summer.
But, it is interesting to know that Liverpool are scouting him. Out of the positions they need reinforcements in, getting a striker would come last in the pecking order. The Reds need to be proactive in the market to get quality midfield additions, and possibly a centre-back to boot as well.
Jurgen Klopp has emphasised on not bulging to high transfer fee demands from the selling clubs. That is probably the reason we are seeing the club linked with multiple midfielders.

We currently have the likes of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota so it doesn’t seem like signing a young No. 9 is urgent. Nevertheless, a move for Wahi won’t hurt, considering he can be a brilliant investment for the future.
