Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on playing a “near perfect game” in win over Leicester City and top-four chances

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp labelled the performance against Leicester City as a “nearly perfect” one as they won the game 3-0 at the King Power Stadium. But he reiterated that the Reds are unlikely to finish in the top four.

A brace from Curtis Jones and a stunning strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold following a rolled free-kick from Mohamed Salah sealed Liverpool’s seventh league win in a row.

With Newcastle United dropping points on Saturday, the Reds are now only a point away from the Magpies and Manchester United. The latter two do have a game in hand though.

What Klopp’s men can do is win the remaining two games and hope for a slip-up. Here’s the German speaking to the media after a convincing win over hapless Leicester (h/t BBC):

“We had to figure out a little bit how we can build up the game for 15 minutes or so. I really like what we did after that. Incredible goals. The second goal was super. It was a nearly perfect game. Between 55 and 75 it was a bit more open than I’d like.

“It’s all we can do [keeping pressure on teams above them]. I don’t think it’s likely [finishing in the top four] when you see how they play, they have so much quality. It would be a real shame if they slip and we’re not there. So we have to do our job.”

Amidst all of that, this was the 14th clean sheet kept by Alisson Becker

in the league this season. He is only one behind David de Gea for the Golden Glove race. Considering how bad Liverpool were defensively before April, the Brazilian deserves plenty of praise to even be in the race for this accolade.

With a very good Brighton side due to play Newcastle on Thursday, things could go either way before Liverpool next take the field against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Although the Magpies can still lose to Brighton and be ahead of the Reds by winning the last two games, the pressure is on Eddie Howe’s men to make this race go into the final day.

From Liverpool’s view, they only want either United or Newcastle to slip. Klopp’s team are only four behind the latter on goal difference as well, while the former is way behind in this aspect.
