Liverpool confirm four exits including Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and James Milner
Liverpool have officially confirmed that Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave the club this summer.
An official statement by the Reds, as quoted by the Guardian, reads:
“All four players will depart with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution they have made.”
The club also said that special acknowledgement will be given to them at Anfield. Liverpool play Aston Villa next at home on May 20 before ending the season at St. Mary’s against Southampton eight days later.
Keita and Ox have been a waste of money. Their injury problems have persisted ever since they joined the club from RB Leipzig and Arsenal, respectively.
Ox had a decent start to life at Liverpool but that injury against AS Roma in the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League semifinals really led to the start of his downfall. Naby Keita hardly had any big moments for us.
The Guinea international, 28, cost us £52.75million in transfer fees. Oxlade-Chamberlain cost us £40million with add-ons. That money has gone down the drain.
They are going to leave the club as free agents this summer. While their exit shows how a club investing big money in players can backfire, James Milner and Firmino’s examples are at the opposite end of the spectrum.
Milner came here as a free agent in the summer of 2015. Firmino cost us £28million including add-ons during the same time. Both leave Anfield as legends, having played a big part in us winning every major trophy under Jurgen Klopp.

It’s funny how Klopp, a man known for his astute signings and attention to detail, signed Keita and Ox, and Milner and Firmino were signed just a few months before his arrival. One thing, though. What about Adrian San Miguel? He hasn’t been put on the release list yet.
