Ruben Neves to Liverpool is not something new. Links with the player have been doing the rounds for quite a few transfer windows now, and ahead of the expiration of his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers later this summer, he stands linked with the Reds once again.
According to Football Insider via ECHO, Liverpool FC’s interest in Ruben Neves is ‘concrete’ and the Reds aim to bring him to Anfield on a free transfer later this year, following the conclusion of his contract at the West Midlands outfit in June later this year (Transfermarkt
).The 26-year-old has been a great part of the Wolves’ squad overseeing promotion with them in the 2017-18 season. However, the player has obviously grown in stature and influence during his time in the Premier League, and the move to a bigger club is probably just around the corner.
Barcelona, are apparently, leading the race to sign Neves but given their financial troubles off the pitch, in case they are unable to sanction a deal for the Portuguese international, the Reds would be more than eager to jump the gun and get the former Porto midfielder on board.
The report further indicates that Liverpool made an effort to sign a midfielder in January, but their attempts met with refusal from Wolverhampton Wanderers’ officials, obviously preventing the transfer from taking place.
At this point in time, a player like Neves, in the prime of his playing career could prove to be a proper fit for the Reds.
With the confirmed outgoing of three midfielders that include Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner, a box-to-box like Neves might help the Reds in the foreseeable future.
The leadership factor, combined with his versatility to play anywhere along the midfield lines almost makes him a perfect replacement for someone like Milly. Hopefully, in case Neves dons the Reds’ jersey, could contribute to the club and their efforts in pursuit of much more silverware.
In 40 appearances across all competitions this season, Neves has six goals and an assist to his name that includes a goal against Liverpool in the 3-0 away loss to Julen Lopetegui’s side earlier this season in February. Hopefully, he could join the Reds and get a ton of more goals and assists.
