In a boost for Liverpool ahead of their final league fixture this season against Southampton, striker Darwin Nunez returned to team training today after a toe injury saw him sidelined against Leicester City and Aston Villa as well. (h/t ECHO)

Whenever available, Darwin Nunez, even though has been guilty of missing one chance too many, has given a new dimension to our attack which at times seemed too one-dimensional and reliant on Mohamed Salah for goal output.

In 42 appearances across all competitions this season, he has scored 15 goals and has four assists to his name as well. Even though these numbers could have been much higher, a new player adjusting to a new league, and not being a freakish robot called Erling Haaland, 19 G/A seems decent, to say the least.

Apart from the usuals at the training session, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo were also a part of the training session, while Naby Keita, Nat Phillips and long-term injury victims Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajectic and Calvin Ramsay were not present.

Darwin boost for the Reds

Nunez’s absence stood felt during his time on the sidelines, as his contributions to Liverpool’s attacking prowess have been invaluable throughout the season.

The striker’s return will undoubtedly bolster the team’s options in the final third and provide much-needed competition for places in the starting lineup.

His return will undoubtedly inject a fresh dimension into the team’s attacking approach and add further firepower to an already potent lineup with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and of course, Mohamed Salah.

With a proper pre-season behind him and the language barrier minimised to as little as possible, there is little to no doubt that Darwin could make next season his own and get the numbers right up there with the likes of Mo and the others.
