Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio continues to stand linked with Liverpool
Sporting CP’s young defender Goncalo Inacio still stands linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer. The need for a new centre-back at the Reds, even though not in the face, is real, and we could do with extra backup in that department.
That’s according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool ECHO), who report that a number of Italian and Premier League sides are keeping an eye on young Goncalo Inacio who turns 22 in August later this year.
With the uncertain futures of Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and even Nathaniel Phillips, it is wise of the club to look for young options in the transfer market. And to add to that, Virgil van Dijk is also not a young player coming up the ranks and needs replacement sooner than later as well.
The club has a €45m release clause in his contract, and in the scenario that the Reds decide to trigger that, we could have on our hands a pretty smart buy. A young player, who has a decent number of European appearances for his age, and shows a lot of promise could certainly hold the lines for the Reds in the near and foreseeable future.
Inacio to the Reds?
Inacio’s performances have evidently caught the attention of top clubs, with Liverpool joining the ranks of those considering a move for the talented Portuguese defender. The Anfield faithful will be intrigued by the prospect of witnessing Inacio’s defensive prowess at their beloved club.
He has 51 appearances across all competitions for his club this season, including 12 at the continental level. Hopefully, the player grows in stature, joins Liverpool and helps the club achieve their objectives.
As negotiations and transfer talks unfold, Liverpool will carefully assess the situation and weigh the value of Inacio against their long-term objectives. The club’s well-established structure and the expertise of its recruitment team will undoubtedly play a crucial role in determining the best course of action.
