During his time as the Head Coach of the U18 Liverpool squad, club legend Steven Gerrard coached Curtis Jones who was just growing with the club back then, and as a matter of fact, still is. In recent weeks, the 22-year-old has racked up some certainly decent performances for Jurgen Klopp’s side and has been impressive.
Jones has found his feet at the club in this new system Liverpool have adopted after a tough few seasons at the club battling numerous injury issues as well. In 23 appearances across all competitions this season, he has three goals and an assist.
With that triad of goals, he is the Reds’ leading goalscorer from midfield this season and apart from that as well, his performances have been praise-worthy. But it stops at that because the Reds need a lot of quality in that midfield for next season and beyond.
Recalling an old incident with Jurgen Klopp, club legend Steven Gerrard spoke about how he convinced the gaffer to retain Jones and give him some time to adapt. Here is what he said speaking exclusively to The Anfield Wrap:
“I remember having a conversation with Jürgen talking about Curtis and he was saying he has little things to improve and I said ‘stay with this kid, he will not let you down.”
Even though it seems like he might have put an end to the transfer talk, Jones still has a long way to go and it is totally up to him to keep up this level of consistency and deliver such and greater performances week in and week out to cement a spot in the XI.
This new system has really seemed to benefit both our Scousers in the team, and hopefully, the trend continues for long enough to oversee a bunch of trophies added to our cabinet at the end of the next season.
As he continues to mature and refine his abilities, the prospect of witnessing his growth and impact on the team becomes even more exciting.
With his continued development and the opportunity to showcase his talents, Curtis has the potential to become an influential figure within the Liverpool team, contributing significantly to their success.
The future certainly holds great promise for this local talent, and Liverpool fans eagerly await his continued success in the seasons to come.
Hopefully, Jones proves Stevie right and never lets Jurgen Klopp and the fans at the club down. Next stop, Southampton (A). Big game for the Reds.
