Liverpool transfer target Josko Gvardiol eyes move to Manchester City

Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, who sees himself linked with a potential move to Liverpool, remains prepared to push for a transfer to Manchester City this summer.

The Premier League champions may undergo a defensive shake-up, with Aymeric Laporte potentially departing, and Josko Gvardiol certainly remains viewed as the preferred replacement with his £70 million valuation from RB Leipzig. (h/t The Mirror)

That means the Reds’ interest, at the moment, takes a backseat. The potential departure of Laporte, a key figure in City’s backline, has prompted the club to actively pursue Gvardiol as a suitable replacement.

The 21-year-old centre-back has demonstrated his immense potential and maturity beyond his years at RB Leipzig, impressing with his composure on the ball and reading of the game. Gvardiol’s strong performances have not gone unnoticed, with his displays earning him recognition at both club and international levels.

What next for Gvardiol?

While Liverpool’s interest in the Croatian was big at a point in time, Gvardiol’s apparent readiness to join Manchester City suggests that a move to the Etihad Stadium is on the cards.

Liverpool, on the other hand, may need to shift their focus to alternative defensive targets should Gvardiol opt for a move to Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, like their rivals, stay expected to bolster their defensive options during the transfer window, given the need for reinforcements and long-term planning.

As the summer transfer window unfolds, Liverpool fans will eagerly await updates regarding potential defensive signings. While Gvardiol’s reported preference for Manchester City is disappointing news, the club’s scouting network and management, with new Sporting Director Jorg Schmadtke at the helm, will hope to identify other suitable candidates to bolster their backline.
