Liverpool legend John Barnes feels Alexis Mac Allister will walk into the Reds XI

Liverpool legend John Barnes claims that Alexis Mac Allister would walk into the Reds XI as and when the Argentine signs for the club.

On Monday (5th June), it was revealed by Paul Joyce of the Times that Liverpool are hoping to complete the signing of Mac Allister this week.

Fabrizio Romano has updated that the 2022 World Cup winner will have his medical done later today with an aim to complete the deal before he joins the national team on June 10.

Here’s what Barnes when asked about Mac Allister and what he can bring to Liverpool (h/t BonusCodeBets, via Liverpool Echo):

“I think Alexis Mac Allister will come with a huge reputation and expectation to be a starter. When you’re signing a midfield player like him, they’re going to go straight into the team.”

Mac Allister is a highly talented midfielder who has grown in stature and experience in the last 18 months. He not only played a massive part in Brighton’s exceptional season but also helped Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar.

The 24-year-old is at the right age to come to Anfield and show his quality. Under Jurgen Klopp, the Argentine can take the next step in his development and become the all-round package we all are hoping him to be.

At Brighton, Mac Allister played in different positions – number eight, number six and number 10. The former two positions might be prevalent for him at Liverpool.

The midfielder is hopefully the first one of many good signings the club are aiming to make in the summer transfer window.

Romano has tweeted that the Reds are in contact with the agents of Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone this week. It remains to be seen whether they will aim to sign both French midfielders, or focus on one and keep the other as a backup option. Gabri Veiga of Celta Vigo has been linked in the recent past as well.
