Former Liverpool star Glen Johnson urges club to avoid move for Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane

As rumours circulate regarding Sadio Mane and his potential departure from Bayern Munich, Liverpool stand advised to steer clear of re-signing the former Reds winger.

With reports suggesting that the 31-year-old is no longer in the plans of Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel, speculation has arisen about Mane’s future.

Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is of the opinion that the Reds should refrain from exploring any opportunity to get back the Senegalese winger to Anfield and rather, plan for a team without him.

Sadio Mane played an instrumental role for Liverpool during his previous tenure, contributing greatly to the club’s success. However, Johnson argues that the Liverpool of today is vastly different from the one Mane left behind this time last year.

Here is what Johnson had to say on the Mane situation speaking to Neue Online Casino via Liverpool ECHO:

“Klopp should not look at Mane again. He is a fantastic player, but he would be coming back to a completely different team to the one that he left. He was great for Liverpool at the time, but it does not mean that he would be great for them now. I don’t think they should go for him.”

Do the Reds need Mane?

The advice from a former Liverpool player sheds light on the complexities of player transfers and the importance of considering the current team dynamics when making such decisions. While Mane’s potential departure from Bayern Munich may spark interest from various clubs, Johnson’s viewpoint provides a valuable perspective.

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s management will undoubtedly weigh their options carefully as they assess their squad’s needs and potential additions during the transfer window.

Understanding the fact that the club has already taken efforts in replacing Mane while signing the likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo is very important to know why we do not need the services of another left-winger, and the player in question is coincidentally one who left the club a year ago.

The team has evolved, and their style of play and tactical approach have undergone transformations. Johnson believes that while Mane was exceptional during his time at Anfield, it doesn’t guarantee the same level of success if he were to return now.

Moreover, Mane is also not the same player he is any more, and the Reds need a young squad moving ahead. Signing a player over 31 surely will go against the ethos of the club and it is not something that we need at this point in time.

There is no doubt about Mane’s quality and the kind of player he is. The Kop surely loves him and he would love to come back to the Reds too, but from a business point of view, it surely does not seem a wise decision to sign the former Southampton man back.
