Naby Keita joins Werder Bremen as Liverpool spell comes to an end
Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita’s five-year journey at Anfield is coming to an end as he joins SV Werder Bremen following the expiration of his contract, as per the Reds’ official website. The Guinean international arrived at Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018.
Throughout his five seasons with Liverpool, Naby Keita made 129 appearances and scored 11 goals. However, his inconsistent presence on the pitch due to injuries limited his impact and hindered his ability to establish himself as a top-class player.
Despite glimpses of brilliance and flashes of his undeniable talent, the Guinean international failed to consistently deliver the performances that justified the hefty price tag Liverpool paid for his services.
Keita’s injury-prone nature became a frustrating aspect of his tenure at Anfield. The inability to maintain a consistent run of games severely hampered his progress and hindered his integration into Jurgen Klopp’s system. As a result, his contributions to the team’s success were sporadic at best.
What next for Keita?
In hindsight, the substantial investment made in acquiring Keita’s services seems to have fallen short of the desired return. Having said that, his performances for Leipzig at the time, were absolutely top-notch and in fact, the £52.7m at that time felt like a bargain.

The departure of Keita opens up opportunities for Liverpool to explore other midfield options and reinforce their squad with players who can consistently contribute to the team’s ambitions.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool will undoubtedly be keen to identify and acquire midfield reinforcements that can withstand the demands of top-flight football.
