Liverpool earmark 23-year-old Serie A star to bolster their backline

Torino star Perr Schuurs emerges on Liverpool transfer radar

Amid a lot of outcry for midfield and defensive reinforcements, Liverpool seem to have taken the matter seriously finally and look to get on board Perr Schuurs of Torino.

According to Caught Offside via ECHO, the 23-year-old Dutchman is among the considerations at Liverpool as they look to get on board a centre-back to bolster their defence ahead of the new season.

Before moving to his current employer, Perr Schuurs had a taste of what it is like playing at Anfield when he visited with Ajax, but not anywhere close to the actual experience as the fixture took place behind closed doors due to the pandemic.

An extremely reliable squad option with nothing worrying when it comes to injury history, Schuurs could grow to become an extremely important figure at Liverpool. Two of Liverpool’s senior-most centre-backs are visibly not the same at their job as they were a few years ago.

Schuurs at the Reds?

While that is surely not enough to immediately replace them, thinking of the future can never go wrong. With a few tactical tweaks here and there, the Reds could surely play a back three in the future where Schuurs could have a role as important as ever.

Schuurs is still young and has years ahead of him to develop into a world-class centre-back. He made the choice of joining Torino from Ajax last summer, and he has gained valuable experience playing in Italy. Now could be the chance to make a big move.

Even with his long-term contract at Torino that lasts until 2026 with an option of an additional year (Transfermarkt), the allure of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world could surely help as Schuurs could in all likelihood, vouch for the move.

The influx of players from his nation plus the presence of Pep Ljinders could help him in making the decision to join the Reds. He would have the chance to play alongside international teammates Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo here.

Having said that, Liverpool should surely look to reinforce the defence as that is also as important as it is to sign more midfielders, even though that is an issue that needs more attention at the moment.
