Mason Mount ‘no longer an option’ for Liverpool following Chelsea demands
Liverpool see themselves out of the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as the Stamford Bridge side’s demands for the 24-year-old were ‘vastly excessive’ for the Merseysiders.
James Pearce wrote for The Athletic and noted that Chelsea’s demands for Mason Mount remained in excess of £70m were too hot to handle for the Reds who are very frugal in nature when it comes to the transfer market.
At the moment, in case he fails to extend his contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Manchester United stand in pole position to get Mount’s signature. A talented player and all of that, but £70m would’ve honestly been a few million more than his worth, at least after the season he had.
Even though he would have been a quality addition to the side, we have to know the style of operations at the club under FSG. We could surely spend that money to get on board two players who could offer the Reds two different aspects of playing in the middle of the park.
No Mason for the Reds
Mount shares a lot of attributes with Jordan Henderson, and given he is just 24, he would’ve taken over the baton from Hendo and provide a significant presence in the middle of the park.
However, it is what it is, and Liverpool would’ve already diverted their attention toward other midfielders who could stand available at a much cheaper price than Mount. We already have Alexis Mac Allister on board, and we have to get someone who could complement his style of play.
The emphasis on pursuing financially feasible options while seeking desired qualities underlines Liverpool’s commitment to maintaining a strong and competitive team.
By carefully selecting and investing in players who can make a meaningful impact on the squad, Liverpool would aim to tackle this period of transition rather smoothly.
