Glen Johnson says Liverpool could still get a deal for Bruno Guimaraes

In an intriguing twist to Liverpool FC’s summer transfer plans, former Reds defender Glen Johnson expressed his belief that the club should not completely be ruled out of the race to sign Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Despite initial reservations, Johnson suggests that Liverpool’s return to the Champions League sooner than later could rekindle their pursuit of the talented player even though Newcastle play in the UEFA Champions League this season and the Reds do not have that allure this year. Here is what he told Betfred via ECHO:

“If you’re playing for Newcastle United in the Champions League, then that’s a bit difficult to give up. I don’t know whether he sees himself at Newcastle in the long-term, but any time that a club like Liverpool comes in for you, then it’s always going to grab your attention.

“However, in regards to a move this summer, all the best players want to play in the Champions League so he may want to stay at Newcastle United for that reason. I still believe that Liverpool will have a sniff because it’s Liverpool after all and they’re going to be back in the Champions League themselves sooner rather than later.”

Liverpool’s admiration for Bruno Guimaraes is no secret, with the 25-year-old catching the eye during his time at Lyon. However, a potential move seemed unlikely due to his instrumental role in helping Newcastle secure Champions League qualification for the upcoming season.

As Guimaraes prepares to compete in Europe’s elite competition, it seems improbable that he would seek a new move at this crucial stage in his career. Nevertheless, Johnson maintains that once Liverpool regains its position in the Champions League, the allure of Anfield could prove enticing to Guimaraes.

Guimaraes to the Reds?

It is undeniable that the Champions League holds a special place in the hearts of footballers, and Guimaraes is likely no exception. However, Johnson’s assertion that Liverpool’s rich history and future prospects make them an attractive destination carries weight.

With their illustrious European pedigree and a squad on the brink of returning to the pinnacle of European football, Liverpool’s allure could be a deciding factor for Guimaraes when the time comes.

As Liverpool fans eagerly anticipate the club’s return to the Champions League, the prospect of bolstering their midfield with the acquisition of a player like Guimaraes adds an extra layer of excitement.

Although a move this summer appears unlikely, the belief that Liverpool will once again compete among Europe’s elite is a powerful argument in favour of their long-term pursuit of the Brazilian maestro.

However, we must note that we got on board Alexis Mac Allister who is also a player who is very similar to Guimaraes but more versatile. Getting the Brazilian on board, and just having him surplus to requirements is of absolutely no use.
