Real Madrid announce long-standing Liverpool transfer target Jude Bellingham
In what was just a matter of time before it actually happened, Real Madrid today announced the signing of Liverpool target Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool stood long linked with a move for the English midfielder but pulled out of the race to recruit the 19-year-old due to monetary factors. Having said that, Madrid got on board the former Birmingham City man for a fee worth €103m with a further €30m in add-ons.
For the Reds to have matched that bid, FSG should’ve seen the bright side of Jude on board which would’ve included having on board a long-term prospect capable of captaining the side, a solid presence in the middle of the park and the off-field benefits of having an English superstar on the team.
Bellingham has a six-year contract at Los Blancos and will form a major part of Madrid’s midfield trio for the future alongside Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga after the imminent departure/retirement of the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the near future.
From Hey Jude to No Jude
Moving on from him, Liverpool will now have to focus on rebuilding their midfield instead of cribbing about not getting on board a transfer target. The club, with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, is already headed in the direction of a positive rebuild, and hopefully, we get on board more.
A number of midfielders including the likes of Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Ryan Gravenberch stand linked with the Reds, and we could remain sure that we will surely have at least one of them on board next season.
However, from what we saw over last summer, we could remain sure that Agent Hendo and Agent Trent tried their best in trying to get Bellingham on board at Liverpool.
This is surely a big failure on the part of FSG as they have failed to identify the needs and requirements of the club and failed to invest a substantial amount when the team actually needed major reinforcement in that department.
