Even though the probability of Liverpool moving for a forward is highly unlikely, the Reds are in the news over a move for Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
The Reds’ target is worth a whopping £153m as per Corriere dello Sport via ECHO, as they mention Liverpool in their report on the former Wolfsburg man.
Osimhen was Serie A top scorer last season and sees himself linked with a move away from Naples, with PSG hoping to secure his service in case Kylian Mbappe departs from Paris.
Irrespective of whether or not Liverpool can afford this price tag [which in itself is highly unlikely], Osimhen, 24, fitting in the Reds’ lineup raises a few questions for sure.
Not that he does not have the ability to. With all due respect, he is one of the brightest talents in the world. However, Liverpool have a sizeable number of forwards and any additions would mean a surplus to requirements.
The likes of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota can handle themselves very well, and adding another striker to the mix is likely to disrupt the team environment. Instead, what would be wise is investing any funds towards securing the signature of a midfielder and then getting on board a centre-back who could provide cover for Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip in the long run.
While there are very few doubts that he could prove to be a good buy for the Reds, there is absolutely no need for the Reds to invest such a huge amount to sign a player for a department wherein they are among the best in the world.
In case we decide to sign up an attacker, it is imperative that the Reds get on board only a right-winger, and that too as a backup for Mohamed Salah.
