Barcelona consider making a move for Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara

As per Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona are monitoring the situation and would consider making a move for Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Reds would let the Spaniard go if a decent offer comes on the table. They won’t force him to leave though. The player only has one year left in his contract at Anfield (Transfermarkt).

Thiago has been an impressive addition to the Liverpool squad since arriving from Bayern Munich in 2020. But, constant injuries have hampered him from playing more games for the club and making a bigger impact.

The 32-year-old is a technically world-class midfielder who runs his socks off for the team in defensive transition. But, it seems like he cannot do it for the majority of a season.

Hence, it does not make sense to keep hold of a player who would play 50% of the games at most and his contract is set to expire next summer. Instead of letting him go for free, why not sell now and get some valuable cash to be used in signing players?

Liverpool’s midfield reshape has been at the centre of attention during this summer window. The club have done well in signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Club captain Jordan Henderson is leaning towards a move to Saudi Arabia after a life-changing offer has been placed on the table.

It is probably the right time for Jurgen Klopp to let go of the midfielders who are in their mid-30s and not expected to take much part in seasons to come. Thiago, on his day, is remarkable… a magician.

But if he can’t stay fit, and if his long-term future doesn’t lie at Anfield, it probably isn’t the worst thing to consider selling him now.
