Jordan Henderson is leaning towards a Liverpool exit after quadruple salary offer from Saudi
As per the Athletic (subscription required), Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is leaning towards a move to Saudi Arabia after a life-changing salary offer.
It is revealed that Saudi side Al-Ettifaq, now managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, will quadruple the salary Henderson is currently earning at Anfield.
The former Sunderland midfielder still has two years left in his contract here. So, a fee needs to be agreed if this move is to happen in the coming days.
As per Dominic King of the Daily Mail, Liverpool will ask for significantly more than what they paid for Kalidou Koulibaly, which was £17m.
Although this sounds like a game-changing deal coming up for the middle east, it is far from it. Henderson is 33 now and should not be expecting to play regularly next season onward.
Liverpool have signed Dominik Szoboszlai, preferably to replace the captain in the right-hand side midfield role. The latter has played well below his standards in the last two seasons as well.
While giving him a four-year contract in 2021 was a mistake because he has played badly since, it could come in handy now because Liverpool can get some transfer fee from his departure.
The Reds can then hopefully use that money to make more signings this summer. They are interested in further bolstering the midfield by signing Rome Lavia. The club is also in talks with Chelsea defender Levi Colwill. Although that deal sounds tough, nothing can be ruled out in football transfer windows.

If this is the end of Henderson at Liverpool, he will leave the club as a legend. His form blew hot and cold in recent seasons but he has been a vital leader here at the club. Losing Hendo and James Milner in the same window could be something we regret. But then again, there are players like Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Andy Robertson who can become leaders here.
