Liverpool readying a £25m bid to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia this summer

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are willing to make a £25m bid to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia in this transfer window.

It is revealed that the latest contact between Liverpool and Lavia have opened up about the club’s interest in the young Belgian midfielder whose team were relegated to the Championship last season.

It is also claimed that Manchester City are showing an interest in the player. Hence, the Reds would have to be quick to get this deal done in the coming days.

A few days ago, it was reported that Southampton would demand something in the region of £50m to sell the 19-year-old. Arsenal and Chelsea are linked with him as well.

Having an asking price that high makes no sense. As good as Lavia is, and he is very good, Southampton are now a Championship club. Not many players in that division can cost £50m.

So, as per the reports, if Liverpool are wanting to make this move happen for £25m, it is at par with what the player should cost this summer.

After the impending departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia, getting Lavia is an important part of what the Reds can do in this transfer window.

Although the 19-year-old is young with only one season of senior football behind him, he has the talent to take over the number six role at Anfield and do very well.

Moreover, Jurgen Klopp can further develop the Belgian’s game and make him into one of the best defensive midfielders in the continent.

It could be a great move for the Belgian national team as well because they are lacking a dynamic, young destroyer in their side. If Lavia comes and has a good first season at Liverpool, he could be an asset for them in the Euros next summer.
