29-year-old star’s move away from Liverpool now in ‘jeopardy’

A deal to move Fabinho from Liverpool to Al-Ittihad is in jeopardy

As per the Athletic (subscription required), a transfer deal that involves moving Liverpool midfielder Fabinho to Saudi side Al-Ittihad is in jeopardy now.

It is also revealed and believed that all parties are still hopeful of getting this negotiation over the line in the coming days. The impasse is also not because of the dogs Fabinho owns.

The 29-year-old was a transfer target for Al-Ittihad and a £40m bid was made. Liverpool left the midfielder from their pre-season squad in Germany. If things do not get resolved soon, he will start

training with the Reds from Wednesday onwards.

Fabinho’s contract at Anfield lasts until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt

). Hence, the Reds are in a strong position to get this deal done as per their terms and conditions.

While the Brazilian was bad last season and he has looked down on energy, it may not be the worst thing to keep him for another season where midfield transition is set to be taking place.

We have already let go of three midfielders for free and captain Jordan Henderson has completed his medical ahead of a move to Al-Ettifaq.

The two midfielders signed – Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, are young players who could do with some guidance in the middle of the park.

So, as much as taking the Fabinho money and buying an experienced defensive midfielder sounds good in the mind, it is difficult to do it in practice due to the competitive nature of the market.
