Liverpool in talks with European giants to loan 24-year-old superstar

Liverpool in talks with PSG over a loan move for Kylian Mbappe

In an interesting [for lack of a better word] turn of events, Liverpool find themselves in the market for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, but with a minuscule twist to the tale.

According to The Mirror, the Reds are in talks with the Ligue 1 giants over a loan move for the striker. Contract tensions between Mbappe and his club are at an all-time high and that is why, the Parisians want to do away with the player for a substantial fee this summer instead of losing him for free next summer as his contract comes to an end in 2024 (Transfermarkt

).

The 24-year-old striker, ever since his Monaco days, has been one of the world’s best and there is surely no club in world football that would not benefit greatly by having a talent like Mbappe on board.

However, Liverpool’s situation when it comes to attackers is a bit intricate when it comes to additions. We have a plethora of options in the front line. From the ever-reliable Mohamed Salah to up-and-coming youngsters like Ben Doak, the Reds’ attack is as packed as ever. First choice options include Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo apart from Mo.

Loan deal for Kylian?

Moreover, the wage structure at Liverpool is also extremely delicate. The Reds have always had an emphasis on sustainable wages, and getting Mbappe on board, albeit for one season has the potential to pose a threat to the wage arrangement on Merseyside.

PSG are fuming that Mbappe refused to talk to Saudi Arabia side Al Hilal after the French champions accepted their world record shattering £259m bid. But as mentioned earlier, they also fear that Mbappe will walk out for nothing in 12 months’ time to Real Madrid.

While it would surely be a dream come true to see Mbappe don the famous Red jersey, it would be a very hard ask of the owners to sanction the move, even if it is for a year.

Al-Hilal’s $775million wage package was apparently turned down by the former AS Monaco star, which shows the financial task at hand for any club that wants to sign him even for a year.
