Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool for Romeo Lavia saga

Jamie Carragher has termed Liverpool’s pursuit of Romeo Lavia as embarrassing, taking to Twitter to voice his frustration.

The Reds are in need of a new defensive midfielder after Fabinho Tavares and Jordan Henderson’s moves to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Lavia has been identified as a solution.

But Southampton are making it hard for the Reds. They have maintained a staunch £50million price tag for the 19-year-old midfielder they signed from Manchester City last summer.

Yesterday, news broke out that Liverpool’s third bid for the Belgium international, believed to be in the region of £45million plus add-ons, was rejected. Quote-retweeting Paul Joyce’s tweet, Carra wrote:

“This is embarrassing. Liverpool for years now have got deals done quickly with no fuss. If you don’t think he’s worth 50M move on, if you really want him pay it. Also not sure why LFC aren’t in for Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for JH/FAB”

He is right. We are penny-pinching at the wrong time of the season, especially when we are in desperate need of central midfielders. Southampton would know that.

They would have seen Hendo and Fabinho leave us at a crucial point in pre-season. They might be in the Championship and they may have completely benched Lavia in their Championship opener.

But they signed him just last summer and have full control over his future. If not Liverpool, someone else could come in for him. He is talented and one of the best in the world in his position at his age.

Hopefully, we have the sense to get the deal done before the Chelsea game in west London on 13 August. He may not start then, but he can at least play in the games that follow.
