Manchester United approach for Liverpool target Benjamin Pavard rejected

Bayern Munich full-back Benjamin Pavard, who has also been on Liverpool FC’s radar, finds himself at the centre of attention as Manchester United make their moves. However, the initial endeavour from the Red Devils has met with a firm rebuff from Bayern.

That is as per Fabrizio Romano via Twitter. The 2018 World Cup winner’s potential departure from the Bundesliga champions has stirred the interest of multiple clubs. Among those clubs was Liverpool, who had previously been linked with a possible move to secure his services.

Recent developments indicate that Manchester United is now in the race to acquire Pavard. The German side, however, has stood firm in the face of United’s initial approach. Despite this initial setback, the pursuit is far from over. Pavard’s eagerness for a move and his decision not to extend his contract with Bayern Munich speaks volumes about his intentions. The current deal expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt)

“Bayern rejected United first approach for Benjamin Pavard, as reported on Saturday.”

“#MUFC …but Man United remain there as Benji Pavard wants the move. He won’t sign new deal at Bayern and insists to leave.”

The versatile 27-year-old defender possesses qualities that could seamlessly integrate into Jurgen Klopp’s plans. At Anfield, the need for reinforcements in defence has been a prevailing theme, and Pavard’s profile aligns harmoniously with the club’s requirements.

The strategic insight into Liverpool’s squad reveals two pressing needs: a reliable centre-back option and a competent backup for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back. Pavard, with his adaptability to both positions, emerges as an appealing prospect. More so in Klopp’s new system wherein we could potentially move forward with a back three.

Pavard’s potential arrival could provide much-needed reinforcement in a department that has grappled with injury concerns and inconsistencies. His experience in high-stakes matches adds a layer of resilience that Liverpool can benefit from as they vie for supremacy in various competitions.

Manchester United’s initial overture has been met with Bayern Munich’s resistance, but the player’s desire for a new chapter speaks volumes. For Liverpool, Pavard’s attributes address crucial defensive needs, offering a dual solution as a centre-back and a right-back backup.
