The transfer saga involving Southampton star Romeo Lavia and Liverpool alongside Chelsea could soon conclude as there is a belief that things take a progressive turn at this point in time.
The Saints’ manager Russell Martin confirmed yesterday after the 4-4 draw to Norwich in the Championship that Lavia did not take part in the game, due to him not being in the “right frame of mind to play”. Here is what he had to say via Sky Sports’ Mark MacAdam
:“Russell Martin confirms Roméo Lavia wasn’t involved today as he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play. I believe it’s edging closer to a conclusion…”
“He believes he’s played his last game for Southampton. Chelsea and Liverpool both keen on Lavia.”
At the moment, Southampton have not agreed terms with any club. Chelsea came closest to their valuation of £50m, while three of Liverpool FC’s bids remained rejected. The Athletic [subscription required] claimed that the Reds believe that £50m is not a justifiable price for Lavia, however, on the other hand, the Reds launched a bid of £110m for Caicedo.
Liverpool go into the Chelsea game without the service of a natural CDM. Hopefully, that situation is solved when Bournemouth visit Anfield next Saturday. As of now, our midfield options include Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai alongside youth academy options.
The departure of Fabinho more than anyone else who has departed, has left behind a huge huge void that needs filling, and almost immediately. While the exact destination remains a closely guarded secret, it’s safe to assume that the tug-of-war between Liverpool and Chelsea could soon yield a victor.
While both Chelsea and Liverpool remain keen on securing Lavia’s talents, his perceived departure from Southampton’s playing ranks underscores the player’s readiness for a new challenge. He’s agreed personal terms with Liverpool, and hopefully, the Reds reach an agreement with The Saints soon.
The departure of key midfield assets over recent seasons has underlined the need for reinforcements in the heart of the team. Lavia’s potential arrival could inject a fresh impetus into the midfield, offering Jurgen Klopp additional tactical options and a player capable of adapting to various roles.
As Lavia’s next chapter beckons, the football world watches in anticipation, ready to witness where his remarkable journey will lead.
