Wataru Endo opens upon what he can offer at Liverpool
New Liverpool signing Wataru Endo is happy and excited to join the club and start playing in front of the supporters at Anfield.
Sky Sports have revealed that the Japanese international has signed a four-year contract with the Reds. A deal is worth around £16.2m which is great for Stuttgart financially given the player entered the final year of his contract there.
Endo is a defensive midfielder who can play as a number eight and as a centre-back. He has been sparingly used as a right-back in the past as well.
Here’s what the 30-year-old said about joining Liverpool and what attributes he will bring to the team (h/t Liverpool website):
“I’m very happy right now and I’m so excited to join a big club in Liverpool.
“It feels amazing and this is my dream. It’s always [been] a dream to play [in the] Premier League and with one of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s a dream come true for me.
“I play as a No.6 and I’m like a bit more [of a] defensive player. I think I can help this club defensively and I will have good organisation in the middle. I think that’s my job.”
Not a very household name, but Liverpool have finally got a player who has the profile and attributes of a defensive midfielder. We hope the club has lined up one more signing in that position before the summer window deadline.
The good thing about Endo is that he is an experienced player who captained Stuttgart to consecutive survivals in the Bundesliga. He has 50 caps for Japan and is their captain too. We saw how good the Asian side were in the past World Cup. They got past a group consisting of Spain, Germany and Costa Rica.
So, along with exceptional defensive and running capabilities, the 30-year-old brings in-depth knowledge of the game that can be helpful when playing in such an important position for the team.

There is expected apprehension among Liverpool supporters regarding the player. Jurgen Klopp has spoken very highly of him and has almost asked us to give him a chance before making final judgements. When the boss says that, let’s adhere to him!
