Saudi giants expected to rekindle transfer pursuit of Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah

According to The Daily Mail, the clubs from the Saudi Pro League have not yet thrown in the towel in their pursuit of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

The Middle Eastern league is gaining prominence thanks to their financial might, attracting several top players from some of Europe’s top clubs. As the most prominent Muslim footballer in the world today, it is a given that Salah would be the league’s crown jewel should they manage to sign him.

Al Ittihad were heavily linked with a move for the Egyptian king and were also rumoured to have made some eyewatering offers for the 31-year-old. However, Liverpool have held firm so far and the player looks set to continue at Anfield for the 2023-24 campaign.

It is understandable given that despite being offered a king’s ransom, the Reds would have little time to spend it on a replacement. More so, news of their transfer kitty will certainly elevate the asking price of prospective reinforcements.

Jurgen Klopp also reiterated the club’s stance last weekend, claiming that the player is keen to stay put. Salah, to his credit, has not angled for a move and even scored last time out against Aston Villa. His body language does not betray the trust of the Merseyside faithful.

Liverpool’s fabled front three could all be in Saudi Arabia come the summer of 2024.

Despite losing out this summer, the trio of Al Ahli, Al Hilal and Al Ittihad are expected to return for Salah next year. All three clubs are owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund  and could compete to sign him.

Salah will be 32 by that time and it will be on Liverpool’s radar to start looking for his successor. A bidding war between three stacked Saudi clubs would be music to FSG’s eyes, potentially securing them enough money to revamp the squad. Surely, for a player whose powers are on the wane, Liverpool would accept a world record bid should it come in.

Though Salah retiring at Anfield would be the romantic way forward, the club will also need to look at it practically. Selling Philippe Coutinho helped the Reds bring in Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk, two cornerstones of our first great side under Klopp.

With Salah also netting us a king’s ransom, there is no reason why we cannot opt to cash in on a depreciating asset and safeguard the long term future of the club. It could prove to eb a win-win for all parties.
