PL club hoping to ward off Liverpool interest by extending 26-year-old’s contract

West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen is a serious target for Liverpool, as they consider him a perfect Mohamed Salah replacement

According to the Liverpool Echo, West Ham United are said to be actively working on extending Jarrod Bowen’s contract due to ongoing rumours linking the winger to Liverpool. It has been suggested that the Reds are considering Bowen as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The Merseyside club may need to make a huge financial commitment to secure the 26-year-old winger. However, the transfer fee could increase further if Bowen agrees to a new contract with David Moyes’ West Ham.

The English attacker has made an impressive start to the season with three goals in the Premier League. Given his outstanding form, it’s understandable why the Hammers are keen to extend his contract.

However, they are aware that they might be unable to prevent Bowen from departing if the Reds were to make an offer.

Furthermore, Liverpool may not encounter any difficulties in meeting West Ham’s asking price for the winger if Salah departs in a high-profile move next year due to interest from cash-rich Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

Hence, Bowen is currently a top choice to potentially fill the Egyptian star’s shoes at Anfield, and the Reds must act to prevent him from extending his tenure at West Ham.

No doubt, Liverpool is a massive upgrade for the experienced winger compared to his current club in east London. The prospect of succeeding Salah is an opportunity that could be too appealing to resist.

Nonetheless, Klopp’s side should start making efforts now, as they would have little time to find a replacement for Salah should the winger depart Anfield early in 2024. Still, West Ham are presently engaged in discussions for a new contract with Bowen, and they remain optimistic about reaching an agreement.

In reality, contract negotiations often hold limited importance nowadays. The primary advantage for West Ham is that they can demand a huge transfer fee for their star player if they get an approach from any suitor.

It remains to be seen how this situation unfolds in the upcoming months and whether the Reds actually make a move for the English winger.
