Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp makes history at Liverpool with a win against LASK Linz

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has made history by becoming the first Liverpool manager to record 50 wins in European competitions.

The Reds manager guided his club to a 1-3 victory against the Austrian club LASK at Raiffeisen Arena in the Europa League group stage’s opening fixture.

Klopp’s team had to make a comeback after Florian Flecker gave his home team a lead in the 14th minute. Darwin Núñez, Luis Diaz, and Mohamed Salah scored the goals for the Reds to finish the comeback for the team. Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez held the record for most wins in Europe by a Liverpool manager with 49 wins.

Klopp’s 50th win in Europe as a Liverpool manager came in 82 matches with a win rate of 60.98%. The German has guided the Reds to 40 victories out of 65 games in the Champions League and seven out of 14 matches in the Europa League.

The 56-year-old took the Reds to the Europa League final in his very first season at the club. Unfortunately, the team lost 3-1 against Spanish side Sevilla.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager won his first European trophy for Liverpool in the 2018-19 season as Liverpool won the Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-0 scoreline.

Liverpool have reached the Champions League finals two more times where they suffered defeat against Real Madrid in the 2017-18 and 2021-22 season. In addition to the Champions League trophy, Klopp has also won the UEFA Super Cup at Liverpool.

Liverpool fans have witnessed some incredible European nights, such as when Liverpool secured a 4-0 victory against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions’ League semi-final or when the Reds triumphed over Dortmund in a thrilling 4-3 match at Anfield during the 2016 Europa League quarter-final.

We hope that Klopp can complete his trophy set at Liverpool by finally winning the Europa League this season. The Reds will be looking to get back to playing Champions League football next season where the European royalty belongs.

For now, UEL isn’t that bad. The existence of the UEFA Europa Conference League below it really gives the Europa League more weightage in terms of clout and respect. We should take it seriously and not just put all our eggs in the Premier League basket.
