Real Madrid are ready to rival Liverpool in the race to sign Rafael Leao

Liverpool see themselves in the midst of a battle for the signature of AC Milan’s highly-rated forward, Rafael Leao. This race for talent has also drawn Real Madrid into the mix, setting the stage for a potential bidding war.

According to reports from Fichajes via ECHO, both Liverpool and Real Madrid have set their sights on the Portuguese left-winger as they seek to bolster their forward lines. Leao, who has been plying his trade in Serie A, has been showcasing his skills with impressive stats, boasting 45 goals in 168 games for AC Milan. This season also, he has found the back of the net twice in his first four outings in the Italian top-flight this season.

The future of the 24-year-old has been a topic of discussion for several seasons now, with clubs like Chelsea previously expressing interest in the former Lille star. Despite the ongoing competition for his signature, Milan has been steadfast in their stance, considering Leao as one of the cornerstones of their attacking lineup.

However, amid the uncertainty surrounding his future, both Real Madrid and Liverpool are reportedly preparing substantial bids that have the potential to break records. The prospect of securing a talent like Leao has clearly caught the attention of these footballing giants, leading to speculation about a significant financial investment.

Leao to the Reds?

While there’s no denying Leao’s superstar potential, Liverpool might be considering whether they truly need to break the bank for his services. The Reds already boast a formidable attacking lineup with a wealth of talent, particularly on the left wing, where Leao typically operates.

Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo are all capable of playing down the left flank. What we need is a long-term replacement for someone like Mohamed Salah, who has only Ben Doak to back him up, and also, Harvey Elliott at times.
